MikroVPS experience

I’ve tried many VPS and dedicated servers worldwide (mainly in Europe and the USA) and was mostly satisfied with them. Naturally, I had some bad experiences, but you learn from your own mistakes. Currently I have VPS instances with most of the major “LowEnd” providers, but my issue with them was always that they weren’t close enough to me, meaning my ping to them was worse than if they were in Hungary.
In August, I noticed a MikroVPS ad on LowEndBox, advertising a 40% discount code, making their services seem quite affordable. I browsed through their packages, and this one caught my eye:
OpenVZ VPS – VZ-2G:
- 3 x 3 GHz AMD CPU cores for fair-share use
- 2 GB RAM
- 70 GB HDD
- 1 TB monthly data transfer
I was skeptical at first, as it came out to 3.54 Euros + VAT per month, but I went ahead and stress-tested it. That’s when the first surprise came. Everything ran perfectly, the system could handle almost anything, and I haven’t experienced a single hiccup, neither then nor since. The entire system is rock-solid with incredibly good performance. Around September (if I remember correctly), they switched to their own built network, which resulted in an IP change, but they handled this perfectly, and I didn’t run into any problems. Professional service. The server is located in Budapest, at the DoclerWeb data center. To be honest, I couldn’t resist spinning up a Minecraft server for a couple of hours just to test the performance, and everything ran perfectly — no lag at all despite pushing the system quite hard. However, I must warn everyone that running any Minecraft server is prohibited and may result in suspension of service. (I’d like to apologize to the provider for violating the TOS 🙁 )
The system’s stability is also evidenced by the fact that it hasn’t been shut down for 81 days, and the performance is still just as good as it was in the beginning.
For those who’d like to see some numbers, here’s a benchmark that was run on the VPS:
CPU model : AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 4386 Number of cores : 3 CPU frequency : 3099.881 MHz Total amount of ram : 2048 MB Total amount of swap : 256 MB System uptime : 81 days, 14:32, Download speed from CacheFly: 78.5MB/s Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 17.6MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 13.7MB/s Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 5.73MB/s Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 15.2MB/s Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 30.4MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 6.18MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 12.1MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 8.26MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 19.0MB/s I/O speed : 156 MB/s
So in conclusion, all I can say is that I’m truly perfectly satisfied with the service, and I hope this quality will be maintained in the future.
KUDOS to the MikroVPS team.
